Look at these planting directions to get the idea of what should be done to plant these Cedars.
SPRUCEWOOD FARM PLANTING DIRECTION
WESTERN RED CEDAR The cedar have different requirements from the above. They will not need as much water (perhaps 1 gallon per day) and fertilizer. 2-3 times per year. Every couple of months use ¼ cup of soybean meal or 1/8 cup fish fertilizer or 1 tablespoon of Scott's Turf Builder. Don't put any of it on the roots. They both should be kept damp, but not so much as water-log them. The cedar can handle a lot more heat than the spruce because they are up to a zone 8. MAKING A HEDGE If the trees are to be kept 3 foot to 7 foot tall then they shouldn't be further than 3.5 feet apart ( 3 ft is better for the shorter end of the height size). When they get to the height wanted, cut the new Spring growth about ½ off when it is not fully grown out. That keeps it to the size you want it and also stimulates new growth on the inside of the trees.
Western Red Cedar is among the most widespread trees in the Pacific Northwest.
They reach a height of 50-70 feet and a width of up to 25 feet.
There is a soft beauty to them when properly grown. They can be planted alone or for hedges, groupings, screens.
